The exhibition Archetypes of Concrete Art at MeetFrida Art Space marks the beginning of a unique artistic concept by artist Darko C. Nikolic. In the MeetFrida Art Space in April 2022, the first presentation of the series of works opens a complex comparative system of a strict formal language and color design.
The series of 36 paintings is a consistent development of Nikolic's œuvre. Fascinated by the different facets of the color and form effects, the idea solidified that a consistent continuation of these groups of motifs would provide an insight into his own work and at the same time open up a space of experience for viewers.
The exploration of color and form within a fixed formal framework is thus the starting point for the work series Archetypes of Concrete Art. Both the conceptual approach and the examination of the reduced, geometric motifs refer to the art movement of constructivism. Six motifs are explored in six color variations each in the 36 large-format paintings. The variations thus offer the opportunity to grasp the different impressions that the respective versions create, either standing alone or in comparison to each other. The exhibition thus offers an immersive art experience for the visitors.
The presentation of the series of works is planned as a long-term art action, conceived as a traveling exhibition with ever new stations. The exhibition Archetypes of Concrete Art will be on view at MeetFrida Art Space until the end of May 2022.
