About the Artist

In her process, Jieun Kim likes to examine color, form and materiality as well as analyzing how harmonious and aesthetic states are created through the medium. The process can take from a few weeks to several months. Sometimes she paints on wood before carving the material away again. The compositionally arises from the constant questioning of necessity within the pictorial space. She may sews lines across her work or perhaps collages upon its face. In this way, the artist wants to create a subtle dimensionality to her paintings. She seeks to add a material illusions to minimal and graphic works.
